Bottle Caps and more...

I have come to the realization that I HATE the brown Root Beer flavored bottle caps (candy). For a while, I thought I could come to enjoy them, but I just ate one. This was the first time that it actually tasted disgusting. I guess that made up my mind. No more brown bottle caps. For those of you who do not know what bottle caps are. .. I recommend not eating the brown ones when you figure it out.

Last night, I was so productive.. So proud of myself. I finished the scarf I was knitting. What a joy, what an accomplishment. Okay, so that may be an overstatement. But, it is a big deal. I sat down last night for a little over an hour and finished knitting my scarf. I was so impressed with myself. Understand, that i was also watching TV (so I was not knitting that fast). But, I think it turned out well. I am going to wear it. My next knitting project.. Another scarf. You see, all I can knit are scarves. I have tried reading the instructions on how to knit anything else, and they are just jibberish to me. So, I have long ago given up that hope. Anyways, who is going to want a sweater that I knit? Not me. Homemade scarves are just so much more stylish. lol. At least I think so. Especially if I make it.

I had the most bizarre comment from one of my students today in class. Rigoberto (Rigo) was looking out the window and says "all these houses around here are weird". I look out the window and am confused because they all look pretty typical for the area. So, I ask Rigo why they look weird. His response is "because they are all so nice". Okay, this would be a logical response if the school was located in Whitefish Bay, or South Milwaukee, or.. anywhere but this neighborhood. The houses are not nice. I mean its inner-city Milwaukee. Then, I thought, if he thinks these houses are really nice, what kind of house does he live in. At that point, I was thankful for what I had.

Okay.. So, I just got a call from my work today, saying they need my roster of students as soon as possible, it was supposed to be in Friday. That is all great and all, and i wouldn't be frustrated, but I faxed it to them 2 TIMES last week. So, now i need to leave my school early, and drive 20 miles out of my way to drop off the physical copy of it, because their fax machine is disfunctional! What that is about, I do not really know. It makes absolutely no sense. Plus, they are probably not real happy with me because they do not yet have it. Its not my fault. What else am I supposed to do. Fly there? I try not to go to the office unless I desperately have to. I dont like the 20 mile out of my way drive - plus, I have to go through downtown, and traffice at that time of the day is killer. There are always slow downs. The trip from my school to my home is so easy.. 5 miles.. 10 min. Doesnt get much better.. But, then to have to drive all the way to the office.. That adds a good 45 min - hour on to my drive. ERR!! okay, Im done ranting. I need to go.. Nicole just got dropped off in my room. She is not one of my students this quarter, but Im the only teacher she will productively work for. So, student services came and asked if she could just come and work with me for the hour. (My students this hour that I normally have all decided, once again, that school is not important, and did not show up.)

Happy Post Thanksgiving everybody..

Monday once again - post Turkey Day. I would like to say that my turkey day was this big, party like event - but thank goodness it was not. Though, it was unusual. My brother came up from Texas, and my dad stayed home from hunting. Big deal, you may say. But, you need to realize that I have never spent a Thanksgiving with either of them. My day is always hunting over Thanksgiving and therefore never home. And, well... my brother lives in Texas and that is a long drive. I must say it was nice to be together like a family for the holidays. Normally, it is my mom, sister, her kids and myself. The day went fairly smoothly. I practiced my kitchen skills. I made sweet potatoes/yams (whatever you want to call them) and green bean casserole. I must say that both turned out marvelous. At least I think so. Just in case, I bribed my niece (she is 6) and said that if she told me they were good she would get an extra Christmas present. She's pretty smart. She ate some, and we heard "I like these". That's my girl! lol.

Over the weekend, I went to go and see "Bridget Jones: Edge of Reason". It was good. Very funny, about the same amount of depth as the first one. But, its a movie that makes you laugh. I went with my sister. We wanted to see "Friday Night Lights" or "Finding Neverland", but neither of them were playing at the theater back home. I dont know what that was about - both are new and popular movies. Oh well.

This weekend, I got almost all of my Christmas shopping done. All except my sister. But, I know what I am getting for her; its just a matter of buying now. Then I am done. Not even December yet, and I only have one person to buy for remaining. How on top of things am I this year. Very impressed with myself I am..

Now, I am back home. At work - though I am not really in a work mood. I would rather be home - sleeping! But, oh well... Hopefully my students will give me a break today - and make it an easy day. But, I guess its okay. I am leaving at 1:30 today to get some paper work turned in and all that stuff.. So, 4.5 hours and I am at least done with the students.

The weekend o' not so excitement...

Finally my sickness is gone.. Well, for the most part anyways. I am not about to say that I am completly better..... But, I guess I shouldnt ask for too much. Life is good this week. It is Tuesday, and still my last day of work for the week. How great is that for me, and if you are not me, well - I bet you are hating me right now. lol

Im going home tomorrow to spend the holiday with my family. I am going to be there Wednesday - Sunday. I might very well go insane within that time period, but lets all pray that I do not. It is pretty exciting. My older brother is coming in from Texas - not his whole family, just him. But, still, I havent seen him since i made my trip down to TX 2 Christmas' ago. Other than that, I am just going to hang around with the family.. Have some plans with my sister. All that good stuff.

My weekend wasnt too eventful. I did not end up going to the movie. Jennifer did not pan out - something else came up. On Saturday I had a "stamp it up" party to go to. I have to admit that I was not that excited about it, because I am a scrapbooker, not a stamper. But, to my surprise they are focusing of stuff that can be used for scrapbooking too. So, I ended up buying an alphabet stamp set. It will be really cool to use scrapbooking for a different lettering style.

Enough for now, probably more later - its still early.

Finally Feeling Better - but not perfect

Friday at 4:52pm. Sitting here at my apartment, waiting to go and see a movie tonight. Im not exactly sure what we are going to see.. I am going with my friend Jennifer (and maybe her boyfriend). All I know is that we are going to see something at the budget theater. There are 3 good movies playing there; so I am okay with seeing any of them.

My day today went really well. The cabinet that I ordered for my classroom manipulatives came in yesterday and they brought it to my room this afternoon. Thus, I spent the afternoon putting that together and putting all my good stuff to help teach the students in it. I also did some inventory of all supplies that I have so far. I have to turn in a complete inventory list soon, so I started that today. Plus, I wrote up a proposal for a parental involvement event. All that, in addition to my normal teaching. But, remember that on Fridays we only have class until 12:15.

What book am I reading: The Nanny Diaries by Emma McLaughlin and Nicola Kraus
What CD is in my CD player: Gretchen Wilson

Still Sick as ever..

Its 1:40pm and I am at home. I came home early sick today. I feel like death and probably look like it too... AHH!!! I left work today around 11:45. My head is pounding and Im so congested. I should invest in the kleenex stock, Im using so much tissue.. The bad part, I have to leave at 2:30 to go to a staff meeting that is required of me. That I am NOT looking forward to.

You know what? I hate when you buy really cute socks and then get a whole in the toe right away. That is what happened to the socks I have on right now. It actually happened to a few of my pairs of socks (I am a little weary about buying socks from a certain store anymore - because those are the only ones that are doing it). Well - of course the socks that get the holes are the cutest ones. I refuse to not wear the really cute socks just because they have a hole in them. Nobody is going to see the whole in the toe - who is going to know. Alright, so now everybody who reads this is going to know, but oh well. So, here I sit on my couch, with my toe sticking through my sock.. lol.. oh well. At least my socks are cute.

Im hoping to be able to pose some pictures from this summer and from halloween!!

My productive day...

Why is it that it seems some people forget to charge their brains at night. I was in the grocery store last night and there was this group of girls that were as ditzy as can be. I just wanted to ask them if their brain charger was broken. Its like any electronical device, when the battery gets low it start acting a little different. I admit I have my moments where people must think the same about me, but I cannot imagine having the problem all the time. Do these individuals not know they are annoying?

Yesterday was a productive day. I normally have one about once a week or once every week and a half. It is one of those days where you just feel you need to get everything done that needs to be done. Well, I was sick and still had this day yesterday. I went to the grocery store, did my laundry, did my dishes. Oh, while we are on the dishes story. My sink was clogged yesterday. So, there I sat with a plunger trying to declog it (thanks to Steve - he's so smart). I made a mess, but I think its all better. For now anyways. The sink is about 100 years old (well, the whole place is really old) and Im just waiting for the next time. I actually bought laundry soap last night as well - I started feeling guilty about using the lady's stuff (that lives below me). It wasnt like I used it all the time, just when I didn laundry at my house; and it was only a few times. lol.. Oh well. Now i have my own.

The day today is going really well. I watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer this morning - I actually watch it every morning, I just decided to mention it today. Its getting to the finale of the show, where the entire town of Sunnydale falls into the Hellmouth. If you dont watch Buffy - then you have no idea what Im talking about and think Im crazy. But, I am going to admit, I am a full fledged Buffy fan. What can I say. Oh well...

Im still sick today, but going to the doctors. I think my appointment is at 2:00. Which means I am leaving work at 1:30. That is a plus. But, I have to bowl tonight and that is a downfall. I dont think a sick Sarah makes for good bowling. But, we play the vacant team (way to hard to explain) so we should be done really quick - and that makes it kinda a plus. But, im going to go.. Its almost time for my next class. Actually, I still have 15 minutes left to my prep period - I wrote really fast today. Oh well.. I should prepare anyways. Have a great day, and leave me a post... It makes me feel loved.

Monday and Sick (PS - Post on my chatterbox - Left - towards middle of page..)

Hi all.. Its Monday morning.. And like that is not bad enough, Im sick. Its not like an "Im dying" sick, but its an "Ive got a sore throat, I want to cut it off my body" sick. We've all had those days - dont deny it... I woke up at 6am this morning with my throat hurting and couldnt get back to sleep - so there went 25 min. of valuable sleep time - not used. Not that I really needed that sleep time. Lately, I have been overly tired. I am not sure what my problem is. For those of you that know me (and those of you that dont) - I am a go to bed around 11 or 12 and wake up at 6:30 or 7 with no naps during the day. Well, lately Ive been sleeping by 9 (or 8 on occasion) and I can come home and sleep in the afternoon too. Plus, I have been having terrible dizzy spells too the last couple of days. I am not sure what is wrong, but Im going to the doctor on Tuesday... Fun fun..

This weekend was pretty good. On Friday night I went out to a television preview event with Tracey, Patricia and Vanessa. This was not one of the better ones. One show we saw was really dumb and the other was funny, but set back in the 80's.. So, very outdated. Why couldn't this have been one of the really funny ones that everybody talks about? Who knows, maybe next time. Then I ended up going by Steve's for the entire weekend.

Now, I am back at school..sneezing..and drinking water trying to soothe the throat while teaching the students. such fun.. Not sure what I am doing after work today. I will probably go home and sleep some.. maybe play some guitar.. scrapbook, knit, scan some pictures... Whatever I feel like.. But, Im going to end for now.. More again later..

Today's Thought: Being sick is no fun....

Finally Friday

I finally figured out to add stuff to my blog (like links and stuff) thanks to Hannah. So, I have added a counter, some links to pages that I like - including other blogs soon, and a chatterbox. This is becoming so exciting. I can barely stand it. lol. Oh well. The last 2 days have not been entirely exciting.

On Wednesday I finally got some of my pictures hung on my wall - after living there for almost 4 months. Steve came over and hung them for me. What a sweetheart. Just ended up running some errands on Wednesday. Nothing too exciting. Last night went to dinner with Katie. We went to the Cracker Barrel (I love that place). Nothing too exciting happened, but dinner was sooo good!!.. lol. I fell asleep last night around 9pm. I do not really know what my problem was, I was just exhausted.. I woke up a few times.. Once at 1:00am, but someone (I do not even know the person) sending me a text message. Hello - make sure you have the right number before you msg at 1am. Some people (like me) are sleeping. Oh well. I cant believe that I got around 9.5 hours of sleep last night. That is just insane! Crazy even.

Tonight Im going to some preview show thing at a hotel with some friends from work. I am not sure exactly what it is, except i know that they are showing us preview shows for the upcoming season. Hopefully, it does not suck. Not that I have a whole lot of other things tI would be doing, but just the same. What am I talking about. I am going with Vanessa, Patricia, and Tracey. The 4 of us together, are just crazy. I think we could attend the most boring event and we would make ourselves have a good time, just by our interactions. (if that makes any sense). Tomorrow I think Im going to head over to see Steve for the weekend - I hope he will have me anyways.

Well, I need to close for now. I have to go and find my students for class and then do some "oh so exciting" paperwork. So, until next time.. Enjoy your day.
You want a thought for the day: When its cold - dress warm.

The Great, The Good and the Terrible....

Where do I start today. Yesterday, what a day - to say the least. I guess I will start at the beginning - at least the beginning of the excitement.

The Terrible
Yesterday I wrote while my students were taking the Terra Nova test. We were supposed to have a 11:25am dismissal because of the test, but ended up not releasing the students until about 1:00pm. Why? - you may ask. Well, because we were on lock down from 10:30am-1:00pm. At 10:30am, an announcement was made that we were going into Red Security alert and needed to lock-down our classrooms. So, here we sat - myself and the class of 8 students that I had. Let me tell you how hard it is to keep students here after the time they are supposed to be released, especially when we have no idea what is going on, and why we are on lock down. Finally, at around 1:00 we got the okay to allow students to leave the building quickly. The reason for the lockdown? There was a fully loaded gun found in the boys bathroom right next to my classroom, and not so good rumors floating around school about the usage of it. Oh, the joys of the inner city school....

The Good
Last night I went bowling. I actually did really good. My average is a 106. But, the 3 games I bowled were 122, 118 and 112. I was so proud of myself. I was just on a roll. We won all 3 of our games (we all bowled really well). I guess we will see if we move up on our place?

The Great
The CMA's (Country Music Awards) were on last night. Oh, what a joy for me. They were on while I was bowling, so I had to DVR them. Then, I was up until after midnight watching them. But, the best part of the night.. KEITH URBAN WON MALE VOCALIST OF THE YEAR! I think it was the biggest surprise of the night, and the most sincere acceptance speech. Also, Kenny Chesney won Entertainer of the Year - which he totally deserved! I have seen him in concert lately and he is amazing! Though I think it is rude that they cut him off how they did. I mean its the biggest award of the night - let the boy talk. Duo of the year.. I dont agree that Brooks and Dunn should have won - I think it should have been Big and Rich. But, that is just my opinion. Horizon award went to Gretchen Wilson, no surprise there - she deserved it because she had an amazing year. Oh, it was such a great show. I am thrilled that George Strait did not win any awards - sorry those of you that are in love with him.

Well, I need to get back to class, its first day of Quarter 2.

Thought for the day: Even the nicest kids bring guns to school (I found this out yesterday)

Long awaited update.. about nothing

Its been a while since I updated. I would like to say that Ive been really busy, but the truth is; I havent. Though, I have been keeping myself occupied. I believe there is a difference between busy and occupied. What the difference is - well, that will have to be covered at a later date.

Okay - first off - the Keith Urban concert. I know it has been 5 days since the show, but this is my first post. Give me a break. The show was AMAZING! I ended up going with Katie (I was supposed to go with Gerry - but thats a long story and I dont want to get into it). We had pretty decent seats. Katrina Elam opened for him - if you dont know who she is, go and check her out. I just bought her CD and its amazing - really fun songs. Keith, himself, was gorgeous. Like I even have to tell you that. He sang all his good songs, did a few covers.. Overall, I think his part of the show was over an hour and a half. I never get sick of seeing Keith. Though, I dont think I would ever get sick of going to a concert. Next concert coming up.. Isnt this sad.. I dont have any idea. I have nothing planned as of yet. Okay, thats not entirely true. I am seeing Sawyer Brown, but that is not until March or April (I dont remember). I am so going to go through concert withdrawl, and those of you that know me - that is NOT a good thing.. lol Oh. I am going to try to attach a picture of Keith Urban to this, so those of you who dont know who he is can see him...

Other than that, I spent the weekend in with Steve. It was great. We didnt do a whole lot. Went to Johnson Creek, which is an outlet store. I am going to have to make a trip back when it is time to Christmas shop. I had never been there, and its nice. I just didnt have any money to spend. Big surprise! ! ! Then, raked some leaves - though didnt get much accomplished. Just raked them into a huge pile so that Justin could jump in them. What a cutie. Took a role of film on Sunday and it turned out wonderful/adorable/etc.

Yesterday, was back at Steve's. Played most of the night with Justin. Read some books that had trains in them (all books we had read about 5 times before - I am going to have these books memorized soon.) Had a twisty party - dont ask.. and played, played, played.... That boy tires me out!

Right now, I am sitting in class. Well, not really class. I am giving the Terra Nova test to a group of my 9th graders. The Terra Nova is a standardized test that the state makes us give the kids to find out "where they are". I HATE standardized tests, and think they do not accurately measure how smart a student is. Enough ranting about that.

Tonight the country music awards are on. I have to DVR it though, because I bowl. I love awards shows. I will keep it on my DVR and watch it about 100 times before I decide to delete it. I must go for now.

Thought for the day: Be who you are, not who others want you to be.

I saw Gertie, Pee Wee, Millie and the rest of the ducks last night..

Here I sit again. Writing about whatever makes my little heart happy. What that may be today. I do not really know.

OH! Last night I went to the Riverwalk in downtown Milwaukee - basically its just a little path along the Milwaukee River. Its so pretty at night though, because of the Milwaukee skyline and the lights. (well, most of it is pretty..) It has been so long since Ive walked the Riverwalk. I had forgotten how much I love it down there. I bet it has been at least a year and a half since Ive been.. I went with Steve and Tido (thats a dog).. both of whom I adore. I love the artwork and the buildings. There are some of the most amazing buildings along the way. The architecture is just amazing. And, I had never really noticed that until last night.

I came to the realization that tomorrow is my last day with some of my students. On Monday they start a new term. Therefore they are going to have new classes. Some students I will miss. Some students I will happily pass on to the next teacher. lol.

Im going to close for here. But I am going to say one more thing..... I am going to see KEITH URBAN tonight. Ooohh. What an Australian hottie... He just kinda makes you want to go - "aaahh". Most about the concert tomorrow. I promise you that.

Laffy Taffy

Last night I went to see the Village (for the 2nd time). This is my problem with seeing a movie that I have already seen in the theater. The first time, I have no problem sitting through it. I do not know whats coming, and its exciting. Unless the movie is dumb, and I have seen my share of those. When I go and see a movie for the 2nd time, that mystery is gone. For example, I loved "The Village" the first time I. This time, it was lacking. I much prefer renting a movie and being able to get up as I want. Go to the bathroom. Rewind, fast forward, whatever would make me happy. Even stop or pause it if I want to. Okay, thats my rant for the day. On a lighter note, I just saw "The Notebook". Okay, so I saw it on like Thursday or Friday last week, but it was really good. I cried at the end. Now, dont go thinking Im this big emotional person, because Im not. My point, I think everybody in the theater was sobbing. Sniffles were heard throughout the place. My recommendation: Go see "The Notebook".

Oh... In class today my students were all having a really good day. When that happens, they normally get a piece of candy. Well, they all wanted Laffy Taffy. We all know that there are jokes on the wrappers of the candy. For some reason, Yaniris, thought her joke was really funny. Mind you, if you have ever read a laffy taffy joke - they are corny and normally stupid. I dont think this one was much different. I think the students were just in a crazy mood. Here's the joke:

Joke: What is a bunny's motto?
Answer: Don't worry be hoppy.

That is the joke that my 3rd hour class bust a gut. Here I was with my students (all high schoolers) cracking up at this joke.

But, it gets better.... The day just was a cluster of weird occurances. After we had calmed down from that oh, so funny joke we had a brief moment of efficiency where we actually got quite a bit accomplished. Then, of course the talk starts again. Mind you, of the students I had in class, all 5 of them are girls and 4 of them are pregnant or are moms already. Somehow, they got on the topic of how they told their moms they were pregnant, or how their moms found out. Not even going to start on where this conversation went, but you can only imagine. I need to close for now. Im sure you will hear from me again shortly.

What about ponder...

Alright. Its 9:00am on Tuesday. For some reason, my students feel that school is not an important thing. I find it hard to believe that out of my 6 students that I have first hour, not a single one of them has decided to wake up and come to school. Or at least not to come to school at the actuall time it starts. My bet is, I will see at least a few of them by lunch. Of course, by then, it does no good for me. So, in the meanwhile, I sit here and think about what an exciting and fun lesson I had planned for the students that didnt show up. . So, then I ponder...... School.. I ponder life.. I ponder what I want to do after work... Ponder.. isnt that a funny word. If you say it enough, it just starts to sound completley ridiculous! Maybe, somebody was going to wonder about something one day, and mispronounced the word and "ponder" came out. It very well may be a completley accidental word. I wish my accidental words could become part of the english language. We all know, or you will know very soon if you keep reading what is going to be forthcoming, that I like to make up my own words... Or at least use common words in very unique ways.
So, tonight I am going to go and see "The Village". I have already seen it, but a friend wants to go and do out traditional movied night that we used to do on Tuesdays - at least we did before I started on my bowling league that is also on Tuesdays. (The bowling stories will have to wait for another day - but.. be ready for some funny times with that one).
My goal, is to account my entire life onto these blogs. Every thought - well, maybe not every thought, but enough to fufill my needed blogness. Everybody always told me that I needed to keep a journal, but really.. I dont like writing in books.. I much more enjoy sitting here at the computer and just writing whatever may come to my head at the moment... and I apoligize right now for whatever comes out that is completely dumb. I tend to have blonde moments, but to be honest, I think they make life more interesting and add character to a person.
Here I continue to sit. realizing that my hopes that at least one of my 1st hour students will show up before the 9:35 bell rings, only to be hit by the realization that it wont happen. So, here I sit.. another 20 minutes left for me to ponder about whatever I feel the urge to ponder about. Afterall, Im at work.. Heaven forbid... I actually work...

The beginning of a long future..

So, here is my first post here. Do not expect anything real profound or anything. Come on now, you are talking about me. I guess Im just going to ramble on about my life, whats going on, and what I am thinking. Right now its 6:00pm and Im sitting here watching "The Outlaws concert" from CMT and just got done chatting with my bestest friend in the whole world, Hannah. For those of you who do not know Hannah (though if you ever talk to me, you have got to know who she is). Hannah is my best friend from college. We got stuck together freshmen year as roommates, not knowing each other. There was also Deborah, but unfortunately, we werent enough for her to stay at CUW and she left us. But, Hannah and I got built something that we will never lose or find anywhere else.
How about halloween? I dressed up as an alley cat. It was not real creative, but I thought it was cute. I wore cat ears and tail, and then a black and blue lace skirt, fishnet tights, knee high lace up boots, a black tank top and a black fishnet shirt. It was kind of punk, but I totally loved it, and I had fun in it. I went to 2 halloween parties. One out in WindLake at Kelly's 2, and the other in Oconomowoc. I had never been to a halloween party before, so the whole thing was new to me. Though, I danced and had a good time.

Thought of the day: Find what makes you happy and do it.
