One Heck of a Weekend!!
My gosh - the weekend - where to even start..
Saturday morning, I was on my way to Dave's mom's house in Whitefish Bay (Dave was house sitting for his mom). I was driving on Hwy 43, going about 65 miles an hour when my back tire blew out. Yeah, it didnt just go flat - it blew out. . I tried to make it to the off ramp, but my car was not prepared to go any further. So, there I sat - on the side of the highway... I crawl over to my passenger side (while pushing Zoey out of the way because i had her with me), open the door and look at my tire. It was demolished - it looked like somebody had taken a knife and slashed the tire all the way around. It was b-a-d.. Seeing that it would take me like 4 hours to change the flat, I called Dave (the trusty boyfriend) and told him i needed him to save me and explained to him where i was, and like a good boyfriend he came to change it for me. ( I have the best boyfriend in the whole world - thats why i love him so much)
Side note: Remember that it is nasty outside, we are on the side of the freeway and it is my back right tire that blew up. So, dave is laying in the mucky, wet snow on a blanket that was soaked the second we put it on the ground, trying to hoist my car up using the car company issued jack (that by the way is a piece of shit)... All while not trying to freeze off his fingers because he forgot his gloves. Then, of course, a cop pulls up because we are on the side of the freeway to see what we are doing - not to help, because cops never help when there is a flat, they tend to just supervise.. Then, the cop sees my dog (remember i have an 8 pound miniature pinscher) and goes "What's its name - Killer?" and then laughs like it is the funniest thing in the entire world. Yeah, not really. Hum.. abuot 2 minutes later - another cop pulls up.. because - in milwaukee, if one cop is stopped another one always stops to see what is going on.. So, then we have an entourage of cops watching dave change the flat..
Finally, the spare donut tire is on. Dave is soaked and frozen, my feet are frozen.. Dave follows my to Sears Auto Center, to find out that they closed like 3 minutes before we got there. Then, we went back to Dave's mom's house, warmed up, had dinner, watched some TV and went to bed.. Dave had to wake up at 5:00am to go to work, I was woken up at 6:30 by Leinie and Maggie who wanted to eat.. I fed them, went to lay on the couch and watched the news and a movie until Sears would open again around 10:00.. Finally, back at sears - an hour later and $200 poorer I had my tire fixed, and I was on my way home..
I got home, drove down the alley to the house only to find a 3 1/2 foot pile of snow chunks blocking the parking area/garage of our house. I thought, hum.. - Ill just park on the street, but the side of the alley i would have to go out of - blocked by a 3 1/2 foot pile of snow chunks. So, i leave my car parked in the middle of the alley; i figured nobody can get out this way anyway and we are the last house, who is going to want to get past me. I go in the house, get Maureen (the new roommate), we grab shovels and nonexcitedly trudge outside to shovel. The snow chunks at the edge (where the cement parking area meets the alley) were so big that we had to hand carry them to the other side, because they were too big/heavy for our shovels. We were shoveling for about 30 minutes (getting absolutely nowhere) when a guy with a snowblower saved our lives.. We live in a really good neighborhood where everybody is really nice. There were 2 guys that were going from house to house snowblowing for people that were outside shoveling (so that was us and probably 2 other people). They snowblowed our parking area and sidewalk. That way, we only had to do our 2 walkways (on the side and in the front). Still, we were out for a good hour, and got quite a work out.
What else did I do during the weekend.. I had to go back out to Whitefish bay and feed Dave's mom's dog Sunday night because dave had to work until 7pm and then scorekeep right after and couldnt come home inbetween to do it.. I carpet cleaned my carpet, vacuumed..
It was a very busy, and hectic weekend..Oh yeah, and throw in the fact that during these 2 days, we got over 12 inches of snow/ice.. YUCK!! Im glad its over and that I can get back to my normal life..
