The swearing game..
My 3rd hour class loves to swear. Wait, I shouldnt really say that they "love" to swear. I think it is more habit than anything. Its what they are accustomed too. Its their home life and life away from school... I guess growing up in less than desireable homes and gangs, it becomes part of a persons every day language. What Im saying is that my 3rd hour (well, at least 4 or 5 students from my 3rd hour), does it more than normal. It seems like a lot of my time is correcting the nagative vocab.. Today, Noel said "hell", and Josh followed it up by telling me he was just naming off a noun.
I made this deal with the class today, that if they could go the rest of the week without swearing (Today, Thursday and Friday), I would give them a pizza party Friday for lunch (with Papa Murphy's Pizza). Oh my, were they all excited.. Unfortunately, the excitement only lasted about 5 minutes.. and then.. I heard it. Noel had told Natasha to "shut the fuck up".....
To give them the benefit of the doubt, I gave another chance... but.. 5 minutes later.. you know the rest of the story..
I think I need to start smaller.. Maybe no swearing for 10 min should equal some candy.. then, we will shoot for 30 minutes.. Then, maybe a whole class period.. Then, two class periods.. Who knows...
